The Legend
Jayachand was the ruler of the Gahadavala dynasty and governed the prosperous kingdom of Kannauj in northern India during the late 12th century. His reign coincided with the rise of Muhammad Ghori and the conflicts between various Rajput states. Historical traditions often associate him with rivalry against Prithviraj Chauhan. Despite ruling a wealthy and influential kingdom, Jayachand was eventually defeated and killed during the Ghurid invasion in 1194.
