The Legend

Maharana Sangram Singh, commonly known as Rana Sanga, was the ruler of Mewar who reunited the various Rajput clans to form a powerful confederacy. He was a seasoned warrior who had lost one arm, one eye, and had over 80 scars on his body from various battles. He posed the most significant threat to the establishment of the Mughal Empire in India, challenging Babur at the Battle of Khanwa.

Early Life & Origins

Sanga had to fight for his succession against his own brothers. In the ensuing struggle, he lost an eye and was forced into exile. He lived in obscurity, working with shepherds, until destiny called him back to the throne of Mewar in 1508 after the death of his father and brothers.

Battles & Conquests

Battle of Khatoli

1517

Rana Sanga defeated Ibrahim Lodi, the Sultan of Delhi, and annexed territory, signifying the rise of Mewar.

Battle of Khanwa

1527

A decisive battle against Babur. Despite the valor of the Rajputs, Babur's use of artillery and muskets led to a Mughal victory.

Eternal Legacy

Rana Sanga is the last ruler who managed to unite the disparate Rajput clans under a single banner. His vision of a united Hindu empire was nearly realized. His defeat at Khanwa marked the beginning of Mughal dominance, but his bravery remains a benchmark for Rajput valor.

He defeated the Sultans of Delhi, Gujarat, and Malwa before facing Babur.

It is said he was poisoned by his own nobles who wanted to stop him from fighting a losing war against Babur.
