The Warrior Queen of Gondwana

The Legend

Rani Durgavati was a Chandel Rajput princess who became the queen of the Gond kingdom after marrying Dalpat Shah. After her husband's death, she ruled as regent for her young son and governed the kingdom with great ability. In 1564, the Mughal general Asaf Khan invaded Gondwana during Akbar's reign. Durgavati personally led her army and fought fiercely against the Mughal forces. When defeat became inevitable, she chose death over surrender on the battlefield.

Early Life & Origins

Durgavati was born into the Chandel Rajput royal family of Mahoba and was trained in horse riding, hunting, and archery.
