The Regent Defender of Chittorgarh

The Legend

Rani Karnavati was the widow of the great Rajput ruler Rana Sanga and served as the regent of Mewar for her young son, Vikramaditya Singh. When Bahadur Shah of Gujarat invaded Chittorgarh in 1535, Karnavati organized the defense of the fort and mobilized Rajput warriors to resist the siege. When defeat became inevitable, she led the second historic Jauhar of Chittorgarh along with thousands of Rajput women to preserve their honor.

Karnavati was born into a noble Rajput family and later married Rana Sanga, one of the most powerful Rajput rulers of his time.
